Online training videos give A+ exam candidates an edge as they prepare for the new certification exams
According to Gregg Burnett, VP of Business Development from K Alliance, Countrywide Training will be bundling these high-quality self-study videos with their A+ boot camp classes. “We are pleased to be able to help Countrywide Training extend its coverage while also being able to deliver consistent training to A+ trainees preparing for the new exams.”
CompTIA’s Web site states that the CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition is the latest version of A+ certification. In order to get certified, A+ certification candidates must pass two exams: CompTIA A+ Essentials and A+ Practical Application. Each exam is a timed, 90-minute exam consisting of 100 questions that measure the candidate’s skills in computer technology fundamentals, networking, security, troubleshooting, communications, professionalism, and problem-solving. A “bridge” exam is available for CompTIA A+ 2006 Edition credential holders wanting to upgrade their A+ certifications to the latest edition.
CompTIA, like many IT certification authorities, periodically updates its certification programs to reflect changing technologies. While the 2006 Edition of A+ certification is by no means obsolete and is still relevant, the 2009 Edition validates additional technical skills. One of the key differences between the A+ 2006 and A+ 2009 Editions is the second exam. With the 2006 Edition, candidates had to pass an A+ Essentials exam and then choose to specialize as an IT Technician, a Remote Support Technician, or a Depot Technician. Each technician role had its own specific A+ certification exam that had to be passed along with the A+ Essentials exam. With the 2009 Edition, the second exam, Practical Application, measures the A+ candidates’ abilities in applying their A+ Essentials skills as they troubleshoot and solve computer problems.
Now that the A+ certification program actively measures exam candidates’ ability to put their knowledge to practical use, trainees benefit from online videos that stress these practical skills. K Alliance has long stressed the importance of “real world” applications of technology in its IT certification training videos.
