Norwood, NJ, June 25, 2010 — Winners were selected today from over 200 entries for New Image Weight Loss Camp’s 4th Annual Essay Contest. Ten kids were awarded a three-week campership at Camp Pocono Trails in Reeders, PA, each valued at $4190.

Camp Pocono Trails, founded and owned by Tony Sparber, boasts an impressive 350 private acres, including a lake and two swimming pools, and provides the most comprehensive summer weight loss program for pre-teens and teenagers in the country.

Candidates submitted photographs and essays, which were judged on their sincerity, creativity, and overall impression. Five boys and five girls were chosen based on individual heart-warming stories that illustrated their need for a new image, overall healthier lifestyle, and a fun, memorable summer.

Two of the lucky winners, Quentin Miner Jr. and Alleyah Miner from Upper Marlboro, Maryland are siblings. Quentin, an 11-year-old boy, says he misses swimming, basketball and other athletic activities and is looking forward to kayaking, weight training, and the Odyssey athletic course. Older sister, 15-year-old Alleyah, says, “I promise to give 100% at camp and to try my absolute best at whatever I do for my health.”

The oldest winner, 17-year-old Phylicia Conley from Lutherville, Maryland, has a passion for theater and is eager to improve her acting skills. She hopes to participate in the plays and talent shows at the camp. “Musicals… [give me the chance] to shine,” says Phylicia. Kent Bullard IV, a 10-year-old boy from Ocean View, Delaware, has participated in two Cancer Walks, but really wants to run instead of walk: “I get out of breath so fast and just can’t do it.” At the camp he will achieve his goals through soccer, floor hockey, and hiking.

“I am thrilled to offer these scholarships to kids in need who really want to get their lives back on track,” says Tony Sparber. “Our kids lose an average of 4 pounds per week on our program, which is portion controlled.”

Camp Pocono Trails will give these overweight kids the opportunity to reclaim their lives. Each winner looks forward to gaining the motivation they need to become happier, healthier, and more confident individuals.

The other winners include:

Ryan Stevenson, Glenside, PA: 10 years old

Alexander Ehasz, Towson, MD: 11 years old

Justin Wiggins, Newark, NJ: 13 years old

Haley Kennington, Chicago, IL: 10 years old

Isis Joseph, New York, NY: 10 years old

Brenda Trojanoski, Westbrook, CT: 14 years old
