According to a recent poll by Schiel & Denver Book Publishers, there are five recently published Christian books from the first decade of the 21st Century that are particularly noteworthy:
1. The Faith of Barack Obama By Stephen Mansfield (Thomas Nelson, 2008)
Published before Obama’s Health Care reform, Mansfield’s controversial book examines the 44th U.S. president’s intellectual faith journey, with critical analysis and insightful comparisons to President George W. Bush; inevitably revealing the current U.S. President to be a good man of strong Christian faith, honesty and integrity.
2. Does God Believe in Atheists By John Blanchard (Evangelical Press, 2000)
Allegedly amongst the reading matter of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford in the wake of his extra-marital affair scandal, Blanchard’s easy writing style and comprehensive approach to redemption and faith exploration examines the atheist perspective from Kant to Hegel and Nietzsche, and touches on the great existentialist thinker Sartre.
3. Sarah Palin: A New Kind of Leader By Joe Hilley (Zondervan, 2008)
Hilley’s fascinating and in-depth biography of the former Governor of Alaska and Vice-Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, was the book that many Americans first turned towards to learn more about the story of Sarah Palin at a critical time in her public career during the 2008 election.
4. Breakfast With Jesus By Greg Laurie (Tyndale House Publishers, Inc, 2003)
Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship provides an inspirational and brilliantly written analysis that should be required reading for all Christian schools and universities.
5. Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural Captivity By Nancy Pearsey (Crossway Books, 2004)
Nancy Pearsey, the Francis A. Schaeffer Scholar of the World Journalism Institute, provides a thoroughly researched and insightful book in “Total Truth” that has made an undeniable impact over the last 6 years on how American evangelicals in Congress have re-examined their place in the secular/sacred divide. “Total Truth” lays the foundation for how Christian educators can address the dissemination of the gospel through Christian schools and ministries across the United States.
