Additional Delaware-based ShopRites are currently located in First State Plaza; Chestnut Hill Plaza; Brandywine Commons; and most recently, a state-of-the-art new store at Christina Crossing in downtown Wilmington in December 2008.

The new ShopRite at School Bell Crossing will feature 70,000 square feet of retail shopping and warehouse space and will serve as the anchor tenant at the new retail center. The new store is expected to employ 200 new full-time and part-time persons, including part-time jobs for teenagers aged 16 years and older. Employment opportunities at the new ShopRite at School Bell Crossing will include managers, butchers, pastry chefs, pharmacists, retail and customer service clerks, cashiers, and stock clerks. Both union and non-union compensation packages at ShopRite are comprehensive and include medical, dental, prescription drug, eye care, paid vacation, life insurance, and disability benefits. The company also features a generous and flexible 401-K plan along with various performance incentive programs.

Current employment at the four ShopRite stores exceeds 900 full-time and part-time positions. The additional 200 associates will provide Delaware’s economy an additional $4.2 million base annual payroll, exclusive of company benefits, which are estimated at an additional 50% of the company’s payroll, or an additional $2 million investment annually.

The fit-out of the new ShopRite at School Bell Crossing will encompass an investment of $6 million in new energy-efficient, state-of-the-art equipment, fixtures, lighting, high-end decor, and $1.7 million in shelf product inventory. Store building design is to be LEED Certified, a first in Delaware for supermarkets.

The Delaware ShopRites are owned and operated by the Kenny Family of Delaware. Since 1995, Bernie Kenny has served as the President and CEO. His brother Richard is Director of Government Affairs and Bernie’s son Christopher is the CFO. Additional family members work in many capacities throughout the company.
