Los Angeles, California, May 27, 2010 — Three women from three countries, Emily Tarsell; United States, Judy Wilyman; Australia, and Freda Birrell; United Kingdom/Scotland are actively educating their respective governments about Gardasil®, Cervarix® and Cervical Cancer.
Freda Birrell - is a political lobbyist working with TruthAboutGardasil.org. She gathered 40 pages of adverse reactions to the HPV vaccines from women around the world, information which was integral to the FDA webinar in March of this year. She has been diligently writing letters and meeting with United Kingdom government officials alerting them to the potential dangers of Cervarix®.
Birrell’s latest research has been on the allergic and anaphylactic reactions experienced after receiving the vaccine, and wrote to health ministers sharing her concerns, noting that in the United Kingdom the incidence of death from cervical cancer is approximately 2.4 per 100,000.
Birrell discovered that in the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) on Cervarix®, girls with a medical history of allergies experienced an increased rate of adverse reactions. She believes that to inoculate a young woman who has a pre-existing allergy with a vaccine recognized by medical professionals as causing allergies is alarming. Birrell raises the question whether girls are being screened for a history of allergies prior to vaccination.
In examining 212 VAERS Reports with adverse reactions to Cervarix®, Birrell noticed that 50 (24%) of those reports were either allergic reactions or anaphylactic shock. She is aware this is a small sample, but reports from other countries are similar. Although she does not have all 18,000 VAERS reports she feels she has discovered a potentially dangerous trend depicting a larger percentage of adverse reactions than is being portrayed by the United Kingdom’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, MHRA, (the equivalent to VAERS.)
Section B in the MHRA ‘Allergies’ section states “Allergic reactions are a recognised side effect of the Cervarix® vaccine and are listed in the product information”, but that “severe allergic reactions are very rare.”
According to Birrell’s data, 10 out of the 50 girls had pre-existing allergies and all ten (100%) experienced an adverse reaction to the vaccine. Two of the cases (20%) were life threatening and five (50%) experienced anaphylactic reactions to the vaccine.
Now that this small sampling has been analyzed and a disturbing trend discovered, it is imperative that any government distributing HPV vaccines understands that there could be a greater risk to the health of young girls with pre-existing allergies when administering a vaccine known to cause allergic reactions.
In some areas of the United Kingdom there is currently a voucher system in place offering adolescent girls £45 if they are vaccinated with Cervarix®. She is asking, “How can you take the risk of encouraging young girls with a history of allergies to participate in this scheme without them being aware that there could be an increased risk to their health?”
