Atlanta, Georgia, April 27, 2009 — Vina Ventisquero’s Yali brand and Operation Migration (OM) are proud to announce a new strategic partnership whose objective is to build awareness and support for a unique type of conservation work that seeks to rescue one of the most famous of North America’s endangered species from extinction. Only a handful of surviving birds separate the majestic, 5-foot-tall Whooping Crane from oblivion. Vina Ventisquero will be supporting OM’s efforts to preserve the Whooping Crane through a donation that will help fund their work with the 2009 generation of chicks.

Operation Migration is a non-profit organization in the US and Canada that has played a leading role in the reintroduction of endangered Whooping Cranes into eastern North America since 2001. There is currently a single flock of wild birds that winters on the Gulf coast of Texas which then migrates north to Canada in the spring. This flock of whooping cranes is the only naturally occurring wild population in the world. Scientists have long recognized that with all the wild birds concentrated in one small area, the risk for extinction is very high. Whooping crane survival depends on establishing additional, separated populations — currently the focus of OM’s work.

The El Yali Wetland is central Chile’s most important wetland ecosystem and is home to a quarter of the country’s bird species. Vina Ventisquero’s Yali brand takes its name from these wetlands and from the valley where the winery is located. Yali seeks to convey an environmental message through high quality products that are supported by concrete, ecologically responsible actions. The brand has championed other environmental initiatives, including implementation of sustainable practices in both the vineyard and winery, as well as reduction of its carbon footprint through a partnership with UK-based Climate Care.

The Yali Wetlands Winemaker’s Selection line includes a 100% varietal Sauvignon Blanc as well as a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmerere from the Colchagua Valley. The SRP for both wines is $9.99 for a 750 ml bottle.

Vina Ventisquero is a Chilean winery focused on the production of premium wines with distinctiveness. The company is the producer behind Root 1, the best-selling super-premium Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon in the US, as well as Pangea, an ultra-premium Syrah created in partnership with former Penfolds Grange winemaker John Duval. Grapes are sourced entirely from Ventisquero’s own vineyards that are located in Chile’s most renowned wine regions, including the valleys of Casablanca, Maipo and Colchagua. The Ventisquero commitment to quality and innovation is clearly demonstrated by its ongoing investment in talent and technology. Ventisquero balances its commercial objectives with a profound respect for the environment by adopting winery and vineyard practices that are designed to have as little impact on the environment as possible.
